Kimiko Yoshida, artista e fotografa giapponese, nata nel 1963, vive in Europa dal 1995. Realizza questi autoritratti in cui interpreta altre culture e altri artisti. I tre filoni principali a cui si è dedicata sono la serie delle spose, scrittura e rivisitazioni di celebri quadri (braid, writing, painting), stampate in grandi dimensioni (120x120 cm). Di grande fascino.

Sul sito Digital Surgeons è pubblicata l'immagine qui sotto, dove sono condensati graficamente gli impressionanti dati salienti relativi al terremoto e successivo tsunami dello scorso 11 marzo in Giappone (aggiornati al 22 marzo), chiedono di diffondere e lo faccio molto volentieri, per vedere l'originale andate sul loro sito

Tutta la mia ammirazione al popolo giapponese che sta ricostruendo, con abnegazione e altissimo senso del dovere, il proprio paese. Credo abbia sbalordito tutti vedere la ricostruzione dell'autostrada in 6 giorni e, senza abusare dello scontato confronto con la Salerno-Reggio Calabria, direi che 6 giorni è il tempo che ci vuole a tappare una sola buca nel (pare) efficiente nord-est d'Italia...

Arakawa + Gins - L'ottimismo dei Reversible Destiny Loft di Tokyo

Il sito reversibledestiny.org delle visionaria coppia composta da Shusaku Arakawa, artista e architetto giapponese, e da Madeline Gins, poetessa, uniti creativamente e sentimentalmente dal 1963, si apre con un perentorio: "We have decided not to die" ("Abbiamo deciso di non morire" - Arakawa non ha tenuto fede a quanto scritto, è morto il 18 maggio 2010 a Manhattan). Per farlo hanno progettano e realizzato architetture coloratissime e destabilizzanti, che, secondo la loro originalissima filosofia applicata alle abitazioni, renderebbero più vigili i sensi minando l'equilibrio con pavimenti scoscesi e irregolari, distribuzione di ambienti e arredi inusuale, togliendo ogni elemento rassicurante (anche la porta del bagno) e manterrebbero quindi giovane il corpo e la mente. 

A questo arrivano con assunti di "Biotopologia" (“The most advanced evolutionary and molecular biologists admit that, despite the availability to them in the early 21st century of extensive biological information databases, they know at most only between one and two percent of what contributes to and is constitutive of life, which is to say, when all is said is done, they have only the beginning of an idea as to what life – a living organism – is.” link Biotopology) e l'applicazione dell'architettura procedurale (Procedural Architecture: Do you want to live in an apartment or house that can help you determine the nature and extent of interactions between you and the universe? What lengths would you be willing to go to, or how much inconvenience would you be willing to put up with, in order to counteract the usual human destiny of having to die? Procedural architecture is an architecture of precision and unending invention. Works of procedural architecture function as well-tooled works of equipment that help the body organize its thoughts and actions to a greater degree than had previously been thought possible.  Set up to put fruitfully into question all that goes on within them, (works of procedural architecture) steer their residents to examine minutely the actions they take and to reconsider and, as it were, recalibrate their equanimity and self-possession, causing them to doubt themselves long enough to find a way to reinvent themselves.) 

Ossia: per quanti dati abbiamo a disposizione qualsiasi biologo sarebbe obbligato ad ammettere di conoscere l'uno-due per cento al massimo di ciò che costituisce, o contribuisce alla vita. Vuoi vivere in una casa o in un appartamento che può aiutarvi a capire la natura e la portata delle interazioni tra voi e l'universo? A che profondità sei disposto ad andare, o quante scomodità sei pronto ad affrontare per contrastare il destino umano di dover morire? L'architettura procedurale è la fruttuosa combinazione di tutto ciò: una continua invenzione i cui prodotti aiutano il corpo ad organizzare i propri pensieri e azioni ad un livello che non veniva ritenuto possibile. Dovendo mettere proficuamente in dubbio l'ambiente organizzato secondo l'architettura procedurale i residenti sono costretti a riesaminare minuziosamente i loro gesti ed azioni e, se fosse il caso, ricalibrare la propria equanimità e senso del possesso, abbastanza a lungo da trovare il modo di reinventare se stessi.

Tra i loro progetti realizzati un complesso di loft a Tokyo nel quartiere Mitaka, i Reversible Destiny Lofts, che, nonostante sia la saga delle barriere architettoniche, Arakawa consiglia alle persone non più giovani: 

"People, particularly old people, shouldn't relax and sit back to help them decline. They should be in an environment that stimulates their senses and invigorates their lives."

Everywhere I turn, I'm seeing more and more artists responding to the disaster in Japan. It's incredibly heartwarming amidst such tragedy. My inbox is filling up with individuals sending out their info, and I would like to do a post here. The students at a local University here (UBC), have created a few ways to raise money. One I particularily love is they are selling paper origami cranes to raise funds. I love the legend that promises anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury. Lets hope this legend helps those in need now. Click here for more information on all the ways to help (a comprehensive list).
