Sundae Doodle Google goloso

Quelli di Google devono aver avuto un calo di zuccheri e celebrano oggi i 119 anni dalla nascita della coppa di gelato Sundae negli Stati Uniti, creata da John M. Scott ad Ithaca, il 3 aprile 1892.

Ithaca, New York in 1892

Supporting Ithaca's claim, researchers at The History Center in Tompkins County, New York, provide an account of how the sundae came to be: On Sunday, April 3, 1892 in Ithaca, John M. Scott, a Unitarian Church minister, and Chester Platt, co-owner of Platt & Colt Pharmacy, created the first historically documented sundae. Platt covered dishes of ice cream with cherry syrup and candied cherries on a whim. The men named the dish "Cherry Sunday" in honor of the day it was created. The oldest-known written evidence of a sundae is Platt & Colt's newspaper ad for a "Cherry Sunday" placed in the Ithaca Daily Journal on April 5, 1892. By May, 1892, the Platt & Colt soda fountain also served "Strawberry Sundays," and later, "Chocolate Sundays." Platt & Colt's "Sundays" grew so popular that by 1894, Chester Platt attempted to trademark the term ice cream "Sunday."

nell'articolo "30 Rock Takes on Serendipity's Golden Opulence Sundae" su Eat Me Dialy.

This is currently the most expensive ice cream sundae in the world.

It's name on the menu at
Serendipity 3 in New York is listed as "The Golden Opulence Sundae". It's a big, luxurious and unique dessert but comes at a price only affordable by a few people for it costs $1,000.

Serendipity 3 introduced this unique dessert in 2004 to celebrate the restaurant's 50th anniversary.

It's an ice cream sundae made from only the finest things and when you read the list of ingredients you begin to realise just how special an ice cream sundae this is!

Here's the basic list of what goes into a Golden Opulence Sundae by Serendipity 3 ....
  • Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream infused with Madagascar vanilla which they cover in 23 carat edible gold leaf.
  • The sundae has the most expensive chocolate in the world (Amedei Porceleana) drizzled over it and is covered with chunks of Chuao chocolate (very rare and made from cocoa beans harvested by the Caribbean Sea on Venezuela's coast).
  • Other elements include exotic, candied fruits from Paris, truffles, gold dragets and marzipan cherries.
  • The ice cream sundae is topped with a small glass bowl of golden colored caviar - Grand Passion Caviar and sweetened and infused with fresh orange, fresh passion fruit and Armagnac.
  • It doesn't end there either! The whole Golden Opulence Sundae is topped with a gilded sugar flower and served in a Baccarat Harcourt Crystal goblet (which you get to keep after).
  • There are even gold spoons (18 carat) available to eat the sundae with.

Note: Serendipity 3 is patronized by many wealthy and famous people today but its past is almost as glorious - Marilyn Monroe was a frequent visitor, as well as Andy Warhol and 'First Lady' Jackie O was another regular. She allegedly once tried to buy the restaurant's recipe for their famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate but was refused.
